British Horse Society

The British Horse Society’s Access and Rights of Way Department is also working to improve the bridleways network.

This brings them into regular contact with ministers and officials of government departments, and agencies throughout the United Kingdom concerned with bridleways and other forms of public access.
The Access and Rights of Way Department is represented on many national committees and has frequent discussions with colleagues in other user groups, and runs an extensive Access Training Programme. This Access Training Programme has been successful in boosting knowledge of issues relating to access.

North Somerset Council - Rights of Way department
It is NSC's responsibility to keep the extensive network of public paths (including Bridleways) across North Somerset in working order.

This includes the production of our definitive map which we update with any additions, diversions and deletions and path maintenance - replacing stiles and other furniture and cutting back vegetation on busy routes.

Copies of the Countryside Access Strategy are available on request with further information available from their Policy Officer or any problems can be reported directly through their  Streets and Open Spaces service.

For an up to date listing of all current open DMMO's for NSC please click here.

Bridleways.co.uk

Bridleways.co.uk was set up to to enable horse riders to share information on where they ride within a central resource. This is achieved by providing a website that encourages riders to share route information and use the community forums. The basic idea is that local riders submit details on where they ride, so other riders can benefit from their knowledge and use the routes themselves.

Bridleways also have route maps available that allow users to search for a route, then print off a map they can carry with them.

The Trails Trust

The Trails Trust is a charity aiming to create a greater degree of access to the countryside for all users - horseriders, cyclists, the disabled, and walkers.

Current members of The Trails Trust have been providing new routes for horse riders and cyclists in the area of the Mendip hills and surroundings areas for over 20 years. In that time they have opened over 80 new routes for all non-motorised users and more recently have successfully campaigned to ensure access for horse riders on miles of cycletrack in Somerset and surrounding areas.

MBBA (Mendip Bridleway & Byway Association)

The aims of the MBBA are to protect and preserve the character and status of Mendip's green Ways, to advertise their existence and to create linking and circular routes for the safe use and enjoyment of all users, particularly children.

The MBBA brings a range of events to the area, including equine related talks and organised rides around the area. MBBA works to maintain and improve the bridleways and byways of the district, so that they may be enjoyed by the public.
